2017 News & Events

Tannith Potgeiter (Y11) has been selected to coach 5 and 6 year olds as part of the ANZ Future Ferns programme. She had an incredible day of coaching on Thursday, with Irene van Dyk, as a lead-in to this!

Blake Paynter (Y10) represented Samuel Marsden at the 2017 Mercury Regatta held at Lake Karapiro on 25/26 February. The regatta comprised of rowers from Secondary Schools from all over the North Island.  Blake raced in the Under 16 scull and also teamed up with Elliot Rose from Hutt International Boys School to row in the Under 15 double scull and Under 16 double scull. Blake paired up with Elliot Rose from HIBS for the two double sculls races and although they didn’t make the finals they completed the 2km race in the quickest time recorded this season for the Porirua Rowing Club.  

       

Brinn Robinson (Y11) competed in the 2017 AWD athletic championships at Newtown Park. Brinn achieved a Personal Best in Discus and competed in the 100m championship.


Marsden Whitby achievements from Wellington Round the Bays event last weekend include Thomas Lee (Y12) and Phoebe Lee (Y10) who both ran half marathons. Thomas came 2nd in the 15 and under Men's category, in a time of 1hr 50mins 8secs, while Phoebe came 5th in the 15 and under Women's category in a time of 2hrs 13mins 18secs. Kian Knight (Y12) did the 6.5km run in a time of 32.01 mins and Samuel Wilson (Y10) ran the 10k with a time of 59.23, while Harry Steward (Y8) walked 6.5km representing Marsden Whitby in his cap and shirt. Fabulous efforts by all!


Last weekend Wynter Tickle (Y7) swam in the NZ Junior Festival at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre, representing Capital Swimming Club. Wynter placed 6th in 50m Breaststroke, 4th in 200m Backstroke, 5th in both 200m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke and achieved a Bronze Medal in the 200m Individual Medley.

Marsden sailing team Mawgan Bailey (Y10) and Ciaran Bailey (Y8) entered the Interislander National Optimist and Starling Championships held from 16-19th February at Queen Charlotte Yacht club in Picton, representing Paremata Boating Club. It was their first ever regatta. Mawgan competed in the Starling National open group and came 32nd. Ciaran was competing in the Optimist Rainbow fleet and came in a very close 2nd place, winning a silver medal.

 

Maddie Leslie (Y10) had a great day today winning the Ascot sash, trophy for Best Presentation and also winning Champion of champions Pleasure Pony 2017 where she was awarded with a beautiful rug, sash, trophy and $100 voucher. She also received her 5-year attendance pin.

Georgia Alston is spending 6 months in Ecuador at the language school Vida Verde. Her blog is Georgexploresecuador.blogspot.com if you would like to follow her.

Olivia Levens (11) raced in two national qualifying meets, 2017 Kapiti Champs and 2017 Wellington Regional Champs held over Saturday and Sunday.  Olivia placed 3rd overall in her race class (15 girls) in both events, and 2nd place and $56.00 in prize money in Superclass (age 13 and over girls) at Kapiti Champs. Olivia is the one in the red and yellow helmet.  Race number 58.



Meg Kelly and Toby Kelly (Y8) attended the Australasian Oceanic Champs in Auckland. Meg got a 3rd and Toby a 4th in tricks.  They both did well despite weather conditions.
 

Todd Bishop (Y12), Phoebe Lee (Y10) and Thomas Lee (Y12) all competed in the Manawatu Age Group Swim Championships over the Waitangi weekend all three won medals. Thomas Lee gold 200m IM and 200m fly, silver in the 100m breaststroke, 100m fly and 50m breaststroke. Phoebe Lee gold 50m breaststroke, silver 100m breaststroke, and bronze in the 200m breaststroke and 100m backstroke. Todd Bishop gold 100m fly, silver 200m fly and bronze 200m freestyle.
